Originally from Oregon, Derek grew up in frosty New England and spent many years in the Hudson River Valley region of upstate New York. Additionally, Derek's parents, Barbara and Bruce, also reside in Sarasota and own an antique business.

Being newly licensed, Derek chose a real estate path because several years ago, the head of a moderate-sized real estate firm in Hudson Valley was highly complimentary of his approach to sales and planted the initial seed. Before real estate, Derek spent the last ten years in IT and customer care, including quality assurance, fraud monitoring, e-commerce/web design, and social media. Additionally, he was involved in the antique and fine art business for many years in the tri-state New York region. With a background in the antique business, architecture has always fascinated him.

The best qualities Derek has learned from his previous positions are attention to detail, big or small, which are incredibly important to all interactions. The biggest, however, is that significant purchases such as a home are often an emotional experience, and he will support through every aspect of the process. Derek believes what makes a successful real estate experience is being thoroughly attentive to the buyer's needs and being able to assist with all aspects that may impact their home purchase, from the initial search to keys in hand, and maintaining a great relationship following that. Derek looks forward to working with first-time buyers and guiding them through such a significant period of their lives.

Derek loves living on the Suncoast, where he has a chance to meet friendly people who appreciate Sarasota's beauty every day. A sunset walk on the beach, breathing in the fresh ocean air, he wouldn't trade it for anything. Derek's favorite hobbies include: spending time on the water, swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. He is also a big history buff and loves exploring the area. As a new agent in real estate, he's most excited about developing detailed knowledge of the Sarasota market, seeing the trends that will continue to shape the area, and providing unmatched service!
